Is it against the law to leave the doors on old refrigerators you are discarding of?

February 3rd, 2010 | by admin |
Brutally Honest asked:

I know junk yards need to remove the doors, but I’ve also heard that individuals discarding of refrigerators need to remove them as well, and that it’s against the law to even have them outside your house without removing the doors to ward off the potential of a child climbing inside and suffocating, which has happened quite a few times, therefor someone told me they came out with this law. Is this so ? Or do the laws vary state to state. I live in NY. Thanks.

      Laws probably vary by state.

In Kansas you have to remove the door, or chain it shut, or put it backwards against the wall so it cannot be opened.
